CHONGZUO, GUANGXI, CHINA - APRIL10: A farmer covers his eye outside the "Lifetime Express," a train that functions as a movable hospital, where a team of foreign volunteer doctors just removed a cataract from his eye April 10, 2004 in Chongzuo, China. In China, of the 9 million blind people, 4 million have been blinded by cataracts- a condition that's generally easy to cure. However, while more than 400,000 new cases develop on the mainland each year, only about 200,000 operations are carried out according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Operations can cost more than USD 500, an amount that's out of reach for many rural Chinese. In the area around Chongzuo, one of the poorest regions in China, the annual income only amounts to USD 120-250.
